Summary

Tonight we had quite a lot of cirrus at the beginning but awesome seeing - and then the skies cleared but the wind turned SE and we had poor seeing instead. Then back to OK-ish seeing and cirrus and add in a couple of small technical issues for some added spice - we wouldn't want things to get too easy now would we!
Got science data for:
2016-2-LSP-001 P1 RSS (Observing optical counterparts of transient objects)
2017-1-SCI-055 P2 RSS (Identifying galaxies in massive clusters in the early Universe)
2017-1-MLT-013 P2 HRS (x2) (Asteroseismology of close binary stars with mass transfer.)
2016-2-LSP-001 P3 HRS (Observing optical counterparts of transient objects)
2015-2-MLT-006 P3 RSS (x2) (Characterising Strong Gravitational Lensing systems)
2017-1-MLT-012 P4 HRS (Detailled study of CEMP stars identified in the RAVE survey)
2017-1-SCI-052 P4 HRS (Measuring the orbits of double white dwarfs.)
2017-1-MLT-010 P4 HRS (x2) (Searching for evolved binary stars with long orbital periods)
2017-1-SCI-010 P4 HRS (Spectroscopic investigation of selected southern lambda Boo - type stars)
2017-1-SCI-031 P4 HRS (Deep Halpha imaging of old Nova Shells)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A smooth night of RSS observations with seeing hovering just over 2" for much of the night. With these constraints we mostly did lower priority targets, with many blocks observed for Carole Haswell. I think we've cleaned up most of the RSS P4s!
PIs, please add more loosely constrained blocks for RSS - we're likely to need more targets for next time HRS/FIF work is done. SAs, please encourage the PIs you liaise with to add P4s!

Summary

A mixed night with multiple small technical issues (mostly the HRS guide probe). We observed a good mix of programmes and a high priority DDT target.
We did a focus test at the start of the night, during which the telescope behaved beautifully, requiring very little focussing intervention, so it remains to be seen whether that was useful!
Data taken for:
