Night Log 2024-02-04

SA: Lee
SO: Thea
Others: E10 & Eben (for fold mirror), David

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary
------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a lovely clear night tonight, with good seeing. We experienced an issue with the fold mirror early on, which meant we were limited to using RSS and SALTICAM for most of the night. We still completed 12 high priority blocks.

Science data taken for:
2023-1-MLT-008 P0 RSS (Observations of supernovae, near and far. @_sublunar_)
2020-1-MLT-008 P1 RSS (x3) (Obtaining redshifts for G4Jy sources - the brightest radio galaxies in the southern sky)
2023-2-MLT-003 P1 RSS (x2) (Investigating the polarised nature of TeV-emitting blazars)
2023-2-SCI-002 P1 RSS (Probing the quasar outflows.)
2023-2-SCI-022 P1 RSS (Probing magnetic field strength of cataclysmic variables stars )
2023-2-MLT-004 P2 RSS (Searching for New quasar Pairs )
2023-1-MLT-007 P2 RSS (SALT+Gaia survey of helium-rich hot subdwarfs)
2023-2-SCI-024 P2 RSS (x2) (Identifying targets for follow-up BH dynamical mass measurements)

Summary
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another night that started off with thunderstorms and ended in clear skies. We had a little more open time tonight, completing 6 high priority blocks.

SO: Thea
Others: Petri, Hitesh, Angus & STFC delegation, Eben (CCAS)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thick cloud kept us closed for most of the night again, only to clear in the early hours. We completed 2 science blocks and took some engineering and calibration data.

Science data taken for:
2023-2-COM-001 P1 HRS (HS pipeline observations @dlhwp)

Summary
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Storms and thick cloud kept us closed for most of the night. We squeezed in 3 blocks in the early hours of the morning.

Science data taken for:
2023-2-SCI-024 P1 RSS (x2) (Identifying targets for follow-up BH dynamical mass measurements)

SO: Thea
Others: Moses (NIRWALS), David

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary
------------------------------------------------------------------------

We observed a number of high priority blocks, including 3 P0's to kick off a productive night. Some patchy cloud lead to a little weather downtime, and some variable seeing improved into the second part of the night.

Science data taken for:
2023-1-MLT-002 P0 RSS (Physics of Changing Look AGN)
2021-2-LSP-001 P0 HRS (x3) (Followup of Transients)
2023-1-MLT-007 P1 RSS (x2) (SALT+Gaia survey of helium-rich hot subdwarfs)
